Me in May
I didn’t blog or vlog too much in May because I was promoted at work and it has taken up soooo much of my time. The promotion was exciting, though, so I’m not going to complain! I’ve taken on a lot more responsibilities, which is good because that’s what I wanted. I was in my previous role for four years (in addition to providing holiday cover for other people) and it was getting a bit dull. I’m enjoying the new role, but it’s a lot to take on so I’m still settling in.
At the beginning of the month, Quill and I went to Edinburgh, and we had the BEST time. I’ve almost convinced Quill to move there. It’s probably my favourite city to visit, and I want to go back already.
We also went to see Deadpool 2, which I thought was brilliant, and Solo, which was much better than I expected.
That was pretty much it for May!

As you can see, it was a pretty meh reading month until the very last moment. Did anyone else have a lackluster reading month in May? I had no strong feelings about any of the books that I read, which made me wonder if it’s because I was so busy and couldn’t emote, or if I was just picking up crap books.
Reading Stats
In May, I read just 8 books, which is my worst reading month this year. That said, it’s still a lot better than some months last year, so I’m not counting it as a failure. I read 2529 pages in total and listened to 1454 minutes on audio. My average rating was 3.3, which I guess means my reading is getting better, despite this crappy month!
As for the genres, I read 1 historical, 1 fantasy, 3 contemporary, 1 sci-fi, 1 thriller, and 1 non-fiction. Not a bad mix. I read the books mostly as ebooks (6/8), with 1 paperback and 1 audiobook thrown in there.
In terms of release dates, I read 3 backlist titles, 4 new releases, and 1 ARC. I really need to get cracking on my review copies, because I’ve fallen behind again.
Looking Forward
I’m hoping June will be a better reading month than May was. I’ve got quite a lot going on, but I’m hoping to get a handle on work so I can read during my breaks and in the evenings.
This Wednesday, we’re going to an alpaca farm to walk some alpacas. I absolutely cannot wait. We’re then going to see Jurassic World in the cinema, and I just know I am going to cry. I rewatched the first one last night and I was sobbing over the ending. I just really like dinosaurs.
Quill is coming back to work at the company that I work for next week, which will make travelling to and from work both easier and more entertaining.
Other than that, we’re just planning on spending time with friends and family!

Congrats on the promotion, Amber! Also, please move to Edinburgh so I can visit you there? ????
You didn’t even care about the book you gave 5 stars? That one’s on my TBR.
I hope you have a great June!
