Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. I haven’t taken part in a while, but I felt I just HAD to talk about these books that have been sitting on my TBR shelf for ages because I haven’t gotten around to them. I have been so excited to read these in the past, but I’ve put them off for one reason or another. None of those reasons are good ones…
1. Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas
I was BIG into the Throne of Glass fandom when the books were first coming out. I didn’t love Throne of Glass, but my close friend Judith was on the street team and she convinced me to continue on with the series. I really started to fall in love with it when I read Heir of Fire, and by the time I read Queen of Shadows I was obsessed. I preordered Empire of Storms as soon as I could, but then I just didn’t read it. I took a long break from Booktube and blogging just before its release and I got SUPER distracted by my new social life, so I never actually read the rest of the series.
I’m planning on marathoning the series sometime this year though when the feeling calls to me. I’m thinking in the next couple of months!
2. Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson
My lovely friend Cassidy bought this for me for my birthday a couple of years ago. I was actually quite sensible and I didn’t buy this as soon as it was released because I wasn’t yet caught up with Words of Radiance. I have since finished WOR, but I haven’t read the novella that is in between books two and three, so I haven’t read Oathbringer yet. This is another one I want to read this year though!
3. Heart of Flames by Nikki Pau Preto
I LOVED Crown of Feathers so much, and I genuinely think it’s one of the most underrated books in the book community. It’s a YA fantasy book about PHOENIXES. I gave it five stars, and I bought Heart of Flames as soon as I could (and I got a weird Canadian paperback for some reason… it doesn’t match my UK edition at all), but I still haven’t read it. I think I’m a bit scared it won’t live up to the first book.
4. Red Tigress by Amelie Wen Zhao
Okay so I only read Blood Heir last month but I super loved it. I gave it four stars, and I have utter faith that this series is going to be incredible. I went ahead and got books two and three on my Kindle as soon as I finished the first book… but I haven’t picked them up yet. I did start Red Tigress, to be fair, but I only got about five pages in before I got distracted. I want to get to this one soon though so my enthusiasm doesn’t wane!
5. The Sword of Kaigen by M L Wang
I bought this for myself for my birthday last year, so it hasn’t been on my TBR for ages, but I did originally have plans to read it right away. I’ve heard so many incredible things about this book and I know for a fact that it contains some of my favourite tropes, so I NEEEEEED to read this. Soon!
6. The Obelisk Gate by N K Jemisin
If you’re subscribed to my Booktube channel then you’re probably laughing at me right now. I have put this book on so many TBRs over the years because I LOVED The Fifth Season. I want to love this one too, but I’m so intimidated by it. What if it’s not as good?! After all this time!! This is another book that I said I would definitely 100% read in 2022, but I haven’t picked it up yet. I think I’ll reread The Fifth Season first and then marathon the series.
7. Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
My friend Ro bought this one for me a couple of years ago because she adores this series. It’s another one that intimidates me, because I so badly want to love it but I’m scared that I won’t. I have heard amazing things about the sequel, so I think I’ll at least love that one, but I need to get through Gideon the Ninth first. Give me strength!
8. The Wolf Den by Elodie Harper
I bought The Wolf Den last year and I meant to pick it up right away. To be fair, I did give it a try, but the first chapter wasn’t what I was expecting so I put it down. I loooove Ancient Rome/Greece/Egypt/History though, so I keep eyeing this one up.
9. God: An Anatomy by Francesca Stavrakopoulou
Okay so about a year ago I was watching The Prince of Egypt with Quill, and it suddenly occurred to me that I had no idea about the history of the Western “God”. I’m really into genealogy, so I was looking up to see what the evolution was and where the idea of the one God came from. Then I was reading about Yahweh and the pantheon that people believed in about three thousand years ago. Anyway, I saw this book pop up online or in Waterstones and I decided I HAD to have it for my research. I haven’t read it yet though because it’s huge.
10. A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
I read An Ember in the Ashes when it first came out – however long ago that was – and I was going to pick up the sequel right away. I can’t remember why I didn’t. Then, just before the fourth and final book in the series was released, I bought books two and three in order to do a mega marathon of the entire series. I reread An Ember in the Ashes, and then… just stopped. I don’t know why, because I did enjoy it. I just don’t get five star vibes from this series and so I’ve been putting it off, I guess.
Do you have any books that you JUST HAD TO BUY RIGHT NOW!!! that are still sitting on your shelf?

I’ve heard of most of these books and they’re on my TBR. However, there are some on your list that I haven’t heard of before and they look so very intriguing that I’m adding them to my TBR right now! 😀

Yay, I’m glad I was able to introduce some new ones!

I bought A Torch Against The Night when it came out too and still have not read it! I took a break from the Throne of Glass series before Tower of Dawn was published and ended up finally reading the last 2 books well after it was finished. I haven’t yet read Brandon Sanderson and I really need to!
Lindsey @ Lindsey Reads says
Gideon the Ninth and The Wolf Den are on my TBR as well. I adored the Throne of Glass series and am thinking about doing an entire series re-read soon 🙂 Hope you’ll enjoy all of these!

I really need to read The Obelisk Gate as well. I hope you get a chance to read these soon!
Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight says
Legit half of these 😂 I ended up giving up hope of EoS and sold it. The Wolf’s Den I am *actually* honestly starting soon because the publisher sent it, so I will keep you posted! Ditto Torch Against the Night- I was SO excited for it, even have it signed by the author and yet… at least 6 years later and I still have not read it. Whoops? Gideon and Fifth Season are both sitting on my shelves, too. I genuinely could not do this post because it would be like, 1k books lonG!
