me in may
May was the most stressful month for me and I don’t want to ever relive it. I have mentioned on Twitter and Booktube that Octavia, my kitten, was attacked by the giant cat next door and her eye was damaged. We rushed her to the vet and they couldn’t tell what the damage was because it was so bloody and cloudy, so we waited a week before taking her back. We noticed a lump on her eyeball which the vet thinks is part of Octavia’s iris poking out, and they said it probably won’t go back down on it’s own and they recommended that we remove the eye if it starts to irritate her. However, they also said they had never seen anything like this before, so I asked about corrective surgery and they weren’t really sure it was doable. Octavia is being spayed on Monday at a different surgery, and this one has an eye specialist so we’re going to get a second opinion from someone who hopefully knows what he’s doing. Anyway, in short: I don’t want to go straight into removing her eye, I would rather pay for corrective surgery first. The lump is going down, though, so who knows, it might not be a problem at all.
Other than that, I also had my first Classical Civilisations exam and I think I did okay, but who knows. I’ll have to wait until August to find out!
I also watched some movies, freaked out about Charlize Theron, went out for dinner a couple of times, had a games night with friends, got promoted, and started packing for my trip to America.

book of the month
movies and tv
Pitch Perfect 2 – I didn’t think this movie was as good as the original Pitch Perfect, but it was still pretty fun and just what I needed after the cat fiasco that happened the night before. The jokes were funnier, but the music wasn’t as great, especially the last song. I did tear up, though.
Mad Max: Fury Road – THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE I HAVE SEEN IN A YEAR AND I NEED EVERYONE TO WATCH IT SO I CAN SHARE MY ESSAYS AND INTENSE THOUGHTS. People seem to be afraid to call this a feminist movie, but to me and many other feminists, feminism = fighting for equality and that’s exactly what this movie was about. It was basically a movie about Furiosa, a woman who has had enough of being abused and seeing other women treated like possessions. Max really is a side character who’s along for the ride, helping the women out when he can. It’s about women fighting to live free, and I cried pretty much throughout the entire thing. This movie has so many layers that two viewings just aren’t enough to really capture all of it. Additionally, two of the main characters have a disability, and while I think there could have been more racial diversity, Fury Road pretty much slays all the other points. Here, have some gifs:
Grey’s Anatomy – Tatum and I finally finished season three THANK GOD and now Burke is gone for good and we don’t have to worry about him any more. Only three more horrible characters (George, Izzie, Derek) to go and then we’ll be free forever.
Heroes – Dee finally talked Tatum into watching this through the use of fanvids and other means (there may have been threats). We watched the pilot together AGES ago but Tatum didn’t want to carry on because she said it was boring, but an actual quote from last night was “This is one of the strongest first seasons I’ve ever seen.” AND EVERYONE LOVES CLAIRE YUSS.
Fast and Furious 6 – We continued our Fast and Furious marathon with this movie, which means we’re at the life ruining seventh one now. We’re going to watch together in June and probably cry ourselves to sleep. I’m not ready to watch #7 again, but it has to be done.
Blackfish – I made Tatum watch this with me because I’d heard so much about it and I wanted to learn more about SeaWorld and their treatment of orca. I am so unimpressed, and I’m now looking into the topic some more. Next up: The Cove.
looking forward
First of all, I have three exams in June. One next week and two the week after. I hate myself right now, but I’m also excited to do them and get them out of the way. I’m really enjoying Classical Civilisations though, so that’s a plus!
As I mentioned above, I was promoted at work and so I’ll be starting my training at some point, which will be interesting as I’m taking on a role that I haven’t tried out at all before.
But most importantly I am going to Virginia on the 17th with Tatum to go and stay with our BFF Dee and it’s going to be epic. We have never been in the same place before, and Tatum and Dee have never met in person, so there will be lots of crying and breakdowns (probably from me, lbr) and it’s going to be really hot and I won’t have to worry about freezing to death and we’ve got lots of stuff planned and I’m just SO. EXCITED TO SEE EVERYONE AGAIN AND FOR ALL OF US TO BE TOGETHER. *breathes*
I am so sorry about your cat!! That is awful. I hope she gets better. And wait . . . how can you say that Derek on Grey’s Anatomy is an awful character?? I love him!
So sad about Octavia. I hope the second opinion will give you better information. Congratulations on your promotion 😀 I hope you three have the best time together 🙂
SENDING YOU POSITIVE THOUGHTS ON OCTAVIA’S RECOVERY. I really hope there’s an alternative solution than taking out the eye that would work.
I am ashamed to admit I have yet to see Mad Max: Fury Road. I know, I know, I need to fix this because holy hell it looks fucking awesome.
Aww, I hope it’s all okay with your kitty! 🙁 That’s awful.
Good luck with exams, I’m sure you’ll do just great <3
I seriously need to watch Mad Max…
