me in june
The highlight of my month has to be my trip to Greece. I went to Kos for a week with my boyfriend Quillan and his parents to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. The temperature wasn’t too hot, I was super careful with the suncream so that I didn’t burn, and overall I had a wonderful time. Greek people are the friendliest people ever, and the islands I went to were stunning. I’m hopefully going to do a series of posts about my travels so I’ll go into more detail when I get around to that.
Thanks to my super relaxing holiday, I managed to read ten books last month. I know. I haven’t read that many in one month since the beginning of 2016, before my life got all kinds of crazy busy. And because of those ten books, I’m now back in the blogging zone. Not quite as much as I was at the beginning of last year, mind you, but I’m getting there.
Oh, and I was promoted! June was a month full of training for my new position at work. It was exhausting, especially as I had a lot of Family Stuff going on. It completely knocked me out.
I’m also really into (“really into” meaning I’m being coerced into) exercising at the moment. I do a bootcamp session twice a week, and I’m currently doing Couch to 5K three times a week. I’ve noticed an incredible change in my fitness levels, and now that I’m kind of in the zone I find myself really looking forward to each workout. I’ve lost my mind.
And then there was the Steam summer sale. I bought a tonne of games, but I only spent about £35. I know, I’m impressed as well. My new games include Portal 2, the Trineology, Banished, Rust, and a few others. My boyfriend and I went looking for some good co-op games along with a friend of ours so we could play together. Now I just have to try not to kill Quill during a Super Mario Bros. session so I get to play the new games with him.

book of the month
movies & tv
Game of Thrones – I’m making good progress with this! After two years of not watching, I’m finally almost caught up in time for season 7.
The Age of Adaline – I was having a terrible day a couple of weekends ago and I accidentally fell into a movie marathon. This popped up on Netflix and I thought I’d give it a go because I missed Gossip Girl. Logical! It was a surprisingly captivating film. It’s about a woman called Adaline who doesn’t age, and so she avoids forming proper connections and bonds with the people she knows. Until the guy from Game of Thrones shows up and everything changes.
Wonder Woman – YAAASSS.
Baywatch – So this wasn’t a masterpiece, but it was enjoyable. I don’t think the writers did a great job, but the director and the actors seemed to try to make the best of it. The script was clunky and it didn’t utilise Dwayne Johnson or Zac Efron properly. But I liked it.
Kingsman – I rewatched this in preparation for the next film. A modern classic, imo.
Eddie the Eagle – Yeah. I went on a bit of a binge. This was another really good film, but I doubt I’ll be rewatching it any time soon.
Mothers Day – Bad Moms was better.
Baby Driver – We went to see this last night after seeing it advertised for nearly half a year. They were really pushing this film! It was really good. I loved the soundtrack, and the main guy didn’t annoy me as much as he normally does. He did a good job with the main character.
looking forward
July is going to be a bit more chill than June. I’m not going away anywhere, and I’m expecting to have a few weekends in which I’m free to just veg out. Towards the end of the month I’m taking my mum to see The Lion King on stage, and then we’ve got a couple of birthday parties to go to. I’m expecting work to be busy again, so I’ll probably do a tonne of overtime. And then there’s bootcamp and running, of course. Exciting stuff!
Heyyyyy, long time no see/post! Glad to see you’re back at blogging — I’ve been a little MIA this year too, but I think it’s been good to take a step back. Hoping to get back in the game over the summer. Good for you for jumping on the exercise bandwagon! I’ve been trying to get back into a regular yoga routine because I feel SO GOOD when I’m doing it, but then we get a few days of meltingly hot weather, and I can’t bring myself to do anything at all. Ugh. BUT, sweating from summer weather counts for something, right?
Also, Greece is totally at the top of “places that I want to see before I die”!!!
I’ve been totally rubbish this year! I meant to make a comeback in January but then I got into another reading slump and everything fell through. Our time has come this summer though haha. Sweating totally counts!
Greece is beautiful. Very dry, but very beautiful.
I’m so excited to see Baby Driver! It looks like a lot of fun! And I’m dying for the next Kingsman film–why isn’t it here yet!
I was listening to the audio for the Hate U Give but had to return my copy before I could finish it which is a shame. I was absolutely loving it!
I’m sooo ready for the next Kingsman to come out! Are you going to pick THUG up again? It’s a shame you had to stop halfway through!
Oh I definitely plan on finishing it…I just have to wait forever again to get a copy again -.-
LOL I’m just wiped out reading all the things that happened for you in June. Can’t really relate to that level of busy haha
YES! I’m glad you loved THUG. Such a good book.
Oh man, I remember wanting to watch The Age of Adaline when its trailer was first released and apparently forgot all about it. I finally need to watch it. Yayyy to Wonder Woman!
I’m sooooo wiped out! July has been a lot quieter so far but there’s still a lot going on. I need some time to chill!
WONDER WOMAN!!
Ooh, I’m glad you had such a nice trip to Greece! Did you take pictures?
THUG is such a powerful book, I’m really glad it’s getting the love it deserves. I think it’s still at the top of the NYT bestseller list!
I just saw Wonder Woman on Tuesday. So good! We need more movies where women are allowed to be completely badass.
I’m a bit envious that you’re in the exercise zone. It still feels like pulling teeth to me. xD Is Couch to 5k training available online or do you pay for it?
I took so many pictures! I’ll send them to you. Or post them on the blog in a long awaited travel post. Or both!
I saw that THUG keeps jumping between #1 and #2 on the NYT list! I’m so pleased.
Couch to 5K is free. There are tonnes of apps for it. I use the one by Zenlabs on my phone and it tells you when to stop and start, and also how much distance you’ve covered. You pay for that last bit but it’s pretty good. Week 1 is “just” 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.
I’m looking forward to them!
The app sounds really useful, thanks. (But not as fun as listening to an audiobook, haha.)
Totally agree about Baywatch! They made the most of it but you’re right – totally didn’t use Dwayne and Zac enough!
I’m kinda sad about it but I’m glad I still enjoyed it.
