Can you believe we’re halfway through 2015 already? It seems like only yesterday that we were all setting reading goals and resolutions for ourselves, and now people are dying of the heat and the Australians are wanting summer back, and we’re officially at the halfway point with our reading goals! I wanted to share my reading statistics with you all so that you can see where I’m at with my goals, and also so I can compare them with my end of year statistics in January. There aren’t any fancy graphics because I absolutely suck at anything Photoshop/Excel, so you’ll just have to deal.
Read: 54
Pages: 19,912
DNFs: 4
Lost interest: 7
Acquired: 24
TBR: -41
I’m actually really happy with how this is going! If I stay at this pace then my TBR should be down by around 80 books by the end of the year, which is better than I could have expected. I’ve acquired more books than I would have liked, though – mostly due to the generosity of my friends. I have, however, spent £78 on books so far. I would like to completely cut off from buying books until my birthday in November, with three exceptions: The Dinosaur Lords, Queen of Shadows, and The Thorn of Emberlain. But overall, I’m impressed by myself and my TBR is falling nicely, which is what I wanted!
Most Active Month: March, in which I read an enormous 3963 pages
Happiest Reading Month: May, which had a 3.5 star rating average. Nice!
Most Expensive Reading Month: April, when I spent £27 on books
This is a whopping 722 pages!
Standalones: 26
Series Started: 21
Series Finished: 5
I have a series-ous problem! I start series when I find a new author or have the first one on my TBR or get the first book for review, but I don’t finish them because I either don’t own the rest or the rest aren’t out yet. This is to be expected, I think, considering I’m limiting my book buying and trying to read mostly from my physical TBR. I don’t really see this changing any time soon as I own many other series starters, and sometimes I won’t want to carry on with a series after starting it. But I’m not really too bothered by this.
Fantasy!
This took up 17.54% of my reading, with Contemporary coming up behind it at 15.79%.
Female authors: 70.18%
Male authors: 28.07%
I expected this, and I am very happy about it! I always knew that I read more female authors than male ones, especially as I read a decent amount of YA, where female authors are far more numerous than male ones. (Even if they don’t dominate the awards or get recognised as often as they should. F U, higher ups.) The remaining 1.75% (one book) was written by a male and a female author together. I expect I will keep this up for the rest of the year because I own more books by female authors and I tend to click with those books more easily.
On the topic of averages, I read roughly 105 pages per day. I wish I could read more, but work takes up an ungodly amount of my time and then I have to walk home (I don’t have a commute in which I can read) and have dinner and bathe and all that good stuff. Of course, blogging also cuts into my reading time, as does Booktubing. But I consider 105 pages per day a sign of a good balance! As for the time it takes me to read, it takes me 2.5 days to finish a book on average. This statistic can’t be trusted because some books are longer than others and sometimes I put books down only to pick them up later, but it still looks pretty cool.
Now, on to my TBR! *cracks knuckles* My TBR at the beginning of the year was roughly 365. I own over 700 books so over half of them are unread, and at the beginning of the year I decided that I wanted to change this. My TBR gives me a lot of stress because I don’t like having books that I perhaps won’t get to, or that I’ll forget about in favour of the new and shiny ones. So at the start of the year I set out to change that, and set myself the goal of getting my TBR down by 6 books each month. At the end of June, it should have been at 329, and – *drum roll* – it was actually at 325. So I’m reading more than I expected to and buying less! I’m thrilled, obviously, and I hope to continue this – or even surpass it! – throughout the rest of the year. We’ll see how it goes!
And that’s it! That’s what has been happening in my reading life, statistic-wise, so far this year. How are your 2015 reading statistics? Are you keeping track at all, or are you going with the flow? I’ve been using Crini @ All About Books’ spreadsheet to keep track of everything and I truly think it has been helping. So, tell me about your statistics and/or goals! I’d love to talk about them.

Such a cool post! I never thought to break down my ‘happiest’ and ‘most productive’ months!

Heee, I love that you are consistently using the spreadsheet! I’ve seen so many people give up after a while 😀
And yay for being awesome and rocking TBR reduction!!! You are way better at this than I am LOL

I love this post! Congrats on your TBR progress. You’re doing so well if you are surpassing the goals you set for it! I have to read The Republic of Thieves soon, as I read Red Seas Under Red Skies this year too. I love me some Scott Lynch.
Great post!

Congrats on your TBR progress! I have been trying my best to work my way through mine too. I own a lot of books on my Kindle that really need to be read. Of course my number isn’t quite as bad as yours. 🙂

I should really be keeping track of my reading progres ie: pages, books, etc… I tried last year and became so distracted that I think I made it through January and quit lol

Oh, I love this kind of posts about statistics of reading and stuff! I want to start to keep of my readings too, to know more of my habits but I found it hard to keep a spreadsheet because I often forget about them ><
