Since I fell off the blogging bandwagon a couple of years ago, I wasn’t able to keep up with one of my favourite features on my blog. I absolutely love discovering new authors, and I love supporting the YA newbies, so this feature is one of my favourites. I wanted to bring it back this year because I’ve already read some great 2018 debuts, and I hope to read many more! Without further ado, here are the debut authors whose books are out in February.
February Debuts
American Panda / A Girl Like That / People Like Us / Your One and Only / I Stop Somewhere / The Queen’s Rising / By a Charm and a Curse / The Tombs / Down and Across / Road to Eugenica
2018 debut recommendations
Blood and Sand is a slightly historically inaccurate portrayal of the story of Spartacus. I ended up really enjoying the Spartacus fic that it turned out to be. I definitely need to read more books set in Ancient Rome, because it’s my favourite period of history to study, and also WHY AREN’T THERE MORE HISTORICAL YA BOOKS.
American Panda is about a Taiwanese-American girl who goes to college a year early. Her family is extremely overbearing, and it was an experience to read about, especially since the author said that the events were based on true stories that she had been told or experienced. I didn’t love the writing style and it felt a bit jumpy, but I feel like I learnt some stuff about Taiwanese/Chinese culture.
most anticipated for march
