Reading, Blogging, and Life Goals for 2020

Goals posts are my absolute favourite things to read on people’s blogs, and I’ve found myself bingeing Booktube videos this past week as well. I’m not really one to take a huge notice of goals or resolutions lately, but I do want to set out a few minor goals in order to look back at them at the end of the year and think I’ve done a good job.

If you’ve written (or posted!) about your 2020 goals, let me know in the comments below so I can come and check out your posts. I love reading about what other people are doing.

Reading Goals for 2020

– Small Goodreads Goal

For the past few years I’ve set my reading goal super low. Like, 5 books low. I no longer enjoy the pressure of trying to read 100+ books a year, so I stopped trying. In 2019, I read over 130 books, and I think I can manage it again in 2020, but I’m going to set a low goal again so I’m not feeling pressured and I don’t have Goodreads nagging at me.

– Beat the Backlist 2020

I’ll be taking part in Beat the Backlist 2020. I haven’t taken part in many reading challenges in recent years, but since I’m hoping to host my own challenge in 2020 (more on that soon!), I figured I would get a bit more involved with the community. I chose Beat the Backlist because I have too many books of my own to read, and I was supposed to focus on them in 2019 and I didn’t. 2020 will be the year I do that!

– Keep on top of ARCs

I’ve started working with publishers and authors more in the past few months (after a long break between 2016 and 2019), and I’d like to keep that up for the foreseeable future. Only thing is, this means I have a lot more to read as of late. I’m going to do my best to keep up with my review copies I even started a new blog and Booktube series for my ARC Check Ins and ideally I will be reading them a month ahead. This isn’t always possible because I don’t receive the books in time or I get super busy, but for the most part I should be able to do it.

– Do more buddy reads

I want to do more buddy reading in 2020! I’ve got quite a few buddy reads lined up for January which I’m really excited for. I fell in love with buddy reading in 2019, and I can’t wait to make more friends through it in 2020 and have fun with current friends too. So far I’m reading books with Olivia, Destiny, Justine, Judith, Brock, and Shannon. If you’re interested in doing a buddy read, let me know!

Booktube and Blog Goals for 2020

– Post twice a week

This is a goal for both my Booktube channel and my blog. I feel like twice a week on both is achievable, if I manage to find my routine again (more on that below), and if I manage to post more than that that’ll be a bonus.

– Get a grip on my routine

Since moving house back in September and gaining a longer commute, my routine had been completely up-heaved. I have less time in the mornings and in the evenings to blog and record videos, especially as I’ve prioritised reading over blogging. I’d like to get into some sort of set routine, whether it’s making myself record during set hours of a set day, or I just make sure I’m doing something bookish each evening. I still need to figure this out.

– Post more reviews

Something I really missed out on in 2019 was reviewing the books that I was talking about. I really want to do more of that, because I’ve always enjoyed writing reviews, and I also enjoy talking about them to a camera. I just don’t always remember that I enjoy doing it! I need to get back into that.

– Do better at marketing and promoting my sites

I’ve gotten a lot better at promoting my content in 2019, and I’d like to do even better in 2020. So far I’ve got Twitter pretty much down, and the only thing I’d like to do on that platform is schedule more tweets so I don’t forget about anything. I’d also like to keep playing around with Pinterest for Recaptains, because it’s meant to be a good marketing site but I just don’t understand it. The Youtube Premiere feature is something else I’d like to look into, as well as hammering down on my community posts and comments on there. There’s definitely room for improvement!

Personal Goals for 2020

– Save £X minimum each month

I didn’t want to post my minimum savings goal for each month because I don’t want it to sound like I’m bragging, but it’s an important goal for me in 2020 as Quill and I are aiming to buy a house in 2021. I’m saving A LOT each month already, and I’m already meeting this minimum, so I should be able to meet this quite easily if nothing goes horribly wrong. Houses here in the UK are super expensive, and I don’t want to spend all of my savings on a house, so I need to build up an emergency fund on top of them.

– Keep up the fitness routine

With the gym only being 5 minutes away from my house, it’s really easy to keep my fitness routine going as long as I’m not busy or ill or… anything else. I really hope things stop cropping up in 2020 so I can go to the gym three times a week and keep up my fitness levels. At the moment it’s very up and down with holidays and birthdays and emergencies and sicknesses, and I really want to keep going in 2020.

Those are all my goals and resolutions for 2020! What do you think? Do we have any similar goals?

Best of luck with the goals – they sound like a very healthy mix! I’ll look forward to your posts in 2020 🙂

I completely understand where you’re coming from with needing a routine – we moved last year and my commute is now an hour longer per day (and it wasn’t short to begin with). I also need to pinpoint exactly how I’m going to fit in blogging when I have less time and I’m more tired.

Good luck – I hope everything goes well in 2020 🙂

I’m almost glad it’s not just me! I’m really struggling with it. But hopefully things will get better this year! I’m finding that blogging a bit at lunchtime or making lists throughout the day is keeping me motivated.
