A mother and father leave their baby sleeping in their house while they have dinner with the next door neighbours. They check up on the baby every half an hour, and think it’s all going swimmingly, until they return to find their baby missing. This book was gripping and intense, and while I did kind of guess the plot twists, I really enjoyed it. It’s easy to fly through in just a couple of hours!
This is about a woman who loses her memory every time she goes to sleep. Stuff like this freaks me out, and I found this book to be really chilling. Again, this was easy to read, and I finished it in no time at all.
I could have put all of Gillian Flynn’s books on this list, but I’ve gone for my favourite. Dark Places is about a woman whose family were murdered when she was younger, and she is the sole survivor of the massacre. Needless to say, she’s a bit messed up. The book is told through a series of flashbacks, and I thought it was fantastic.
I read Dangerous Boys first, which was a mistake because it is so similar to this book, but Dangerous Girls is still the superior novel. It’s about a group of girls who go on holiday, and terrible things happen.
THIS IS SO CREEPY! A family moves to rural Scotland. One of the twins has died, but the surviving twin is acting really weird. I loved the dark and sinister tone of this novel.
Child 44 is a bit different to the other books on this list, in that it is actually historical fiction. It’s set in the USSR after WWII, when Stalin and communism were in full swing. It was really interesting to read an impressive murder mystery while also learning about what it was like to live in Russia during this time. I loved the setting.
Another slightly different thriller here. The main character is a cam girl, and one day she suspects that one of her clients has abducted a child so she goes into full investigation mode. So this book is a mix of thriller and erotica and it works quite well. It’s a bit odd, though.
So the main character of this one is a bit dim, but overall this is a fantastic thriller about a guy who sells cover stories and permission slips for the people in his class. Everything goes to crap when Preston goes missing, after Max has come up with a cover story for him. Oh dear.
Get Even is marketed as The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars. That pretty much sums it up. There’s a club at school for people from all different cliques who have gotten together to get revenge on people who act like asses at their school. Then someone shows up dead.
THIS BOOK IS AMAZING. The main character is bisexual, for one thing. Her best friend is killed, and she suffers from PTSD and an alcohol addiction. She has to hunt down the killer and get revenge.
