It’s the middle of 2015 and we’re here to talk about our favourite reads of the year so far! This wasn’t particularly hard for me (Amber) because I have only read a handful of AMAZING books, so it was easy to pick out the best ones of the bunch. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

The Martian is about a man called Mark Watney who gets left on Mars by his crew and so he has to find a way to survive. The entire book was one giant suspense story and I was holding my breath for all of it. And then Andy Weir came out with quotes like “But really, they did it because every human being has a basic instinct to help each other out. It might not seem that way sometimes, but it’s true.” FUCK MY LIFE.
2. The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
I buddy read this one with Tatum in February and it went straight onto my favourites list. Locke and Jean are two of my favourite characters (and SHIP) and Lynch incorporates his hilarious sense of humour into this series. I’ve read all three books (four more are yet to be released) and while they are all great, The Lies of Locke Lamora is a 100000 star read (Tatum: SOBS LOUDLY)
3. Blood Bound by Rachel Vincent
This was a reread for me as I had already read it a few years before, but it was still just as great as I remember it being. I love Vincent’s writing, and I think this book is one of her best.
4. The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness
Because Patrick Ness.
5. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
I was well behind the rest of the book community when I picked this one up a couple of months ago. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before wasn’t a favourite of mine, but it was bloody adorable and I discovered another OTP!

1. The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
It’s about HEISTS and has amazing world-building, the best frondships (better than friendships imo) and of course, the most amazing romantic/platonic/it’s totally canon you gigantic buzzkills relationship EVER. Also. It’s about family. OHANA MEANS FAMILY, OKAY.
2. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Hey, so do you like super geeky (I actually hate this idea that only labelled ‘geeks’ can like certain things but whatever I’m in Virginia while typing this and life is too good to rant rn) references, stories about underdog heroes saving the world, stories which discuss what life is really about, and characters who pull at your heartstrings? READ THIS BOOK GDI.
3. Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch
All of the above for Locke Lamora except with added HEISTS, world-building, relationship progression and PIRAAAAAAAAAAAAATES. Also the creepiest place with ghost people or something dude wtf Scott Lynch.
4. A Darker Shade of Magic byV.E. Schwab
IT’S ABOUT MAGICAL LONDONS HELLO BOOK LET ME EXPLAIN HOW I CRIED REAL TEARS OVER MY HOMETOWN
5. The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness
What Amber said. Patrick Ness is out to get me.
Awesome list. I have never read Patrick Ness, but I really need to. I have heard such great things about his work.
So basically everything in here is in my TBR for a long time now except for To All the Boys which I read last year. I’ve heard so many great things about these books I don’t know why I haven’t read them yet. And I have never read ANY of Patrick Ness’ books and everyone is saying he is amazing.
Aside from ADSOM, I haven’t read any of those books. Is the Martian the one that they are making a movie out of? I keep seeing the Locke Lamora book around, guess that is a sign I need to read it, huh?
I completely agree when it comes to A Darker Shade of Magic, it was a fantastic read and made it on to my top 10. As for The Rest of Us Just Live Here Now, Lies of Locke Lamora and Ready Player One, I want to read them even more now. I am definitely picking those up sometime soon! Great collection of books on here.
I want to read The lies of Locke Lamora this year. It might be a good book to bring with me on vacation. A darker shade of magic, ALL THE LOVE 🙂
YES to ALL of the Scott Lynch! I recently read Red Seas Under Red Skies too -and the part with the creepy things or ghosts was so… terrifying. And A Darker Shade of Magic is so amazing! I love how intricate the world is. Also, I need to read The Martian before the movie comes out.
