I’ve gone for a good mixture of genres for June in an attempt to prevent another May-style reading slump. I really need some books to wow me after the mediocre reading month I had in May. I’ve got a bunch of buddy reads coming up, which will hopefully keep me entertained for most of it! Let me know what you’re planning on reading this month!
TBR pile
I’m currently reading this one, and it’s not exactly the most thrilling thriller, but I’m enjoying it. I would have liked a bit more of a connection to the characters. It’s a thriller set on a spaceship called Outer Earth, where there is apparently a mad man on the loose.
2. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
I’m finally getting to this really popular series! I saw the trailer and decided now was the time to pick it up, and my friend Lacey and I decided to buddy read it together. I’m curious, as it was such a popular series a few years ago and there was so much hype surrounding it, but there’s almost no hype for the movie now.
3. The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
I’m reading this one with five other people, and I’m hoping to have the best time. If I love it, I’ll also be reading the second book, which I have already bought. I’ve not seen anyone say a bad word about this, so I have really high hopes.
4. Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel
I think this will be my next audiobook once I’m (finally) done with Uprooted. It’s told in an interview style, so I think that’ll work well on audio.
I’m hoping to buddy read this one with a friend from work, but we’ll be aiming for 100 pages a week as it’s so long and I’d like to be able to fit other books in as well.
New Releases
1. Save the Date by Morgan Matson
Morgan Matson is one of my faves, and I’ll leave it at that.
2. The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay
I’ve been looking for a good thriller, so I might try this one out.
3. Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse
This is in case I need a good urban fantasy. I’m excited to try it out.
Review Copies
I’m behind on my review copies again, so I’ll try to get to more than three, but these ones below will be my top priority.
1. Onyx and Ivory by Mindee Arnett
I’ve not really got any idea what this is about, other than it’s a standalone (?) fantasy. It has been well received, so I’m hoping it’ll be good.
2. Before I Let Go by Marieke Nijkamp
I was randomly approved the other day for this, even though it was released in January and I requested it back in November or December. I want to get to it this month as I’ve been wanting to read it for ages, and I really liked the author’s debut when it came out a couple of years ago.
3. We’ll Fly Away by Bryan Bliss
This one sounds freaking harrowing. It’s about a teenager who’s on death row. Gawd.
I recently bought Labyrinth by Kate Moss, but I haven’t read it yet. Can’t wait to see what you think of it!
I’m hoping to read THE DARKEST MINDS this month as well to prepare for the movie! I bought it back in 2014 when I first got into book blogging and everyone recommended it, but I never started it … story of my life! I can’t wait to hear what you think about THE LONG WAY TO A SMALL ANGRY PLANET because I haven’t decided if I want to read it or not yet. It sounds really good but I don’t follow too many sci-fi reviewers so I haven’t heard a ton about it.
