Let’s take a trip down memory lane, back to the start of the year. I was struggling to get through a book that I had previously thought would be a great read to kick off my reading for 2013. Honestly, it was terrible. But luckily I had a whole lot of other books (over 500, if I’m going to be honest) waiting to be read. I hadn’t heard much about Pivot Point, but since it was one of the first books that I had been approved for on Edelweiss, I was excited to give it a try.
Now, six months later, Pivot Point is still one of my handful of favourite books of this year. And today I’ll be giving a copy away, as well as interviewing the brain behind the entire operation!
1. Describe each of the potential futures in one word.
(That was a hard question. Is it possible to describe anything in one word? Ha.)
2. Have there been any big choices you’ve had to make at any time during the road to publishing where you would have found having Addie’s ability very useful?
Yes! Twice in Pivot Point’s journey to publication I was faced with big decisions. The first was that two very amazing agents offered representation for the book. And then again, after I picked my agent, we had two amazing editors who wanted it. I hadn’t even thought about how weird and symbolic of this book those experiences were. Twice I had to make a decision between two things. Weird. But yes, her ability would have been very useful because those were hard choices. But obviously, I’m happy with how it all turned out.
3. What was more difficult for you to develop, the characters or the plot?
The plot for sure in this one. The characters came fairly easy. The plot gave me a massive migraine. 🙂 It was just hard to keep track of which Addie knew what and when and how. And then figuring out how one storyline was going to give clues to the other. It was fun, but hard.
4. If you had an advanced brain like Addison, what mind ability would you like? What wouldn’t you like?
The problem with a lot of mind abilities in the Pivot Point world is they all come with downfalls too. You’ll see this more in book 2, I think. I mean, like Addie’s, who would want a bunch of un-lived realities floating around in your head? But this question is hard and changes weekly for me depending on my needs. This week, I have a cold (and it’s 90 degree weather!) so I’d want to be a Healer.
5. And finally, which 2013 YA debut would you recommend? (Alternatively, which upcoming YA debut are you most looking forward to?)
There are soooo many 2013 books I love! Taken, Insomnia, Transparent, The Madman’s Daughter, Prophecy, Dualed, Let the Sky Fall…..okay, you’re right, I’m just naming all my fellow Thirteeners. But I love all of their books!
Bahaha FIRSTTTTTTTTTTT to comment and enter the giveaway because SPLIT SECOND OMGGGGGGG.
This interview is HEAPS of awesome EEEP. I love the parallels of having to make a decision between two options for the agent and the editor, haha.
Anywayyyy which mind power would I want… That’s really hard. I mean, pluses and minuses all around. I agree with Kasie that this could change daily. But I think right now I’d vote for Eraser? Maybe just so I could use this gif:

A book that gets you out of a reading slump or makes you forget about a book you struggled with is always a winner 🙂 This sounds intriguing, so I just had to enter! I would struggle with a question about which ability you’d want too.. although being a healer does sound tempting..

reading other minds…
thx u for the amazing INT giveaway 🙂
Reading what other people going to do next. Thanks for the awesome giveaway! 😀
Irene E. Jensen says
If I could see how people would react to my actions, that’d be great 😛 Well, sometimes at least..

I would love Telekinesis as a power! 🙂
I’d love to have the ability to manipulate and control objects with the mind 🙂 Thank you so much for this giveaway 🙂
Lisa Collins says
Hum… I really have no idea what mind power I would want. I think, like Kasie, it would probably change all the time. I think being a mood changer would be pretty interesting. Who am I kidding? All the mind powers would be pretty interesting.
Calla S says
That is such a hard question!!! Why must I chose. I think I would want……this is sooooo hard….. Ummmmm…… Teleportation maybe!!! I would love to travel in like seconds!!! Thanks for the giveaway!!!! 🙂
I don’t know what kinda mind powers I’d like to have. Reading minds wouldn’t be awesome since I wouldn’t want to know all the dirty secrets of other people and this seeing future thing would suck either, especially if I know something bad will happen. I think moving objects or teleportation would be awesome. Or make myself invisible with my mind so I could sneak into rock concerts. That’d be awesome! I wouldn’t have to carry an invisibility cloack with me 😉 heh. Love the interview, Amber! Kasie seems like a great person and fun to hang out with:)
Alyssa Susanna says
I’d love the mind power to control electricity/technology 🙂
Thank you so much!
Super memory! (Does that even count? I hope it does haha) It would be awesome just to be able to remember everything with one read. Exams would be so much easier!
Thanks for the giveaway!
Mine would definitely be reading other peoples minds although maybe its best if you didn’t actually know, could be more trouble that it was worth.
Kasie West says
Thanks for the fun interview! And you’re giving away a book!? Awesome. Thank you! 🙂
I would love Telekinesis or going back in time 🙂
To power to see my potential future. ;D
That way, I would know if I HAVE TO study or if I can just skate by without studying for my test.
Best power ever.
I think I would like to see the future. Or go back to the past so I could see my dad again. Thank you for such an amazing giveaway.

I would like to have Telekinesis!! thanks for the giveaway!!
Hmmm, Mind powers can sound great, but there is always a down side to it. One thing I know: I don’t want to see the future, scary shit! I like to make choices without knowing what is going to happen, because those choices make you who you are. That being said, controlling/manipulating objects can be fun or Transporting. I could be studying on the beach in the sun on Hawaii by now 😀 Or having Super Intelligence, a bit like Iron man. I would never have to learn again, haha. And I could find ways to get rich in no time so I can buy all the books I want 😀 And I would live in a pretty, big house with a pool, in a very warm country <3 Ohhh, the dreams I have, haha.
Reading peoples minds would be the best!! Thanks for doing this!
Carl Scott says
Hmm, I can already read minds so that wouldn’t be necessary. A super memory would just be annoying to others. I know, the ability to make my thoughts become reality, you know all your dreams come true? Let’s go to Bali!
I would love to have really good memory, like photographic memory. That would be cool.
I have not yet bought Pivot Point but I’m gonna order it today 🙂
So I join the giveaway for Split Second!
I want to have telekinesis, pretty good for someone lazy like I am XD
Ariel Smith says
At first I thought reading peoples mind, but then I was like that would be really noisy. So I would say telekinesis. Or maybe photographic memory. That would be handy.
Erin W. says
Thank you for this giveaway! As for what power I would want . . . that’s a hard one. But I wouldn’t mind the power of STEALING another’s power. XD
I haven’t read this book — so I don’t know what Mind power I’d want — but it sounds soooo good. I’ve heard tons of good things about it and it’s popped up on a lot of Best Books of 2013 lists. I love hearing about authors that had multiple choice along the way. It’s super special that she got the chance to pick between two agents and two editors.
I am so excited for Split Second omggggg. I’ll have to reread PP before then, to experience the awesomeness again. I love the interview 😀 Your questions + Kasie’s answers are awesome!! I especially like how she really could have used Addie’s ability in the editing/publishing process. I’m the worst at making decisions, so it’s definitely an ability I could use XD Which ability would I like, hmmmm. We both know I’m already psychic, and I’m not sure if I’d want to be a Searcher because it reminds me too much of The Butterfly Effect which creeped me out. Right now I’m thinking Telekinesis, because it’s AWESOME. So. Maybe.
Sarah P says
Photographic memory because I’m terrible at remembering thigs and it will help me remember where I put stuff xD
Frk. Hyms says
I would love to see the future – or be able to fly – or telekinesis – or… or… or… Yeah, there is a lot of things I would love to be able to do 😀
I would love to have either telekinesis as i am too lazy or Photographic Memory because I have very week memory… 🙂
I’d probably choose mind reading! Thanks!
Telekinesis or Empathy though according to my friends I already am the latter 🙂
Sabrina Bell says
I’d like to be able to manipulate people’s emotions. That way I’d never fight with my husband, I’d never get annoyed with my mom, I’d never hate my boss. Bahaha.
Chetana Holla says
I would definitely like to have telekinetic powers. I am one of the laziest person alive. So this would be a great power to have. I’d also help people with this power… maybe help people out of a crash by raising the rubble off of them.
Raeleen Lemay says
I’VE BEEN WANTING TO READ PIVOT POINT SO BAD OMG.
Definitely telekinesis – that would be pretty cool
Jaime Lester says
I would take any of them, I think! But telekinesis sounds awesome. Mind reading sometimes. Invisibility! How could would that be?
Omg oh I have heard nothing but good things bout this book I would like to read this my self kinda in the middle of a reading slump :/
Filia Oktarina says
I would love to have telekinesis powers, so i can moving the thing. That was a cool power!!
miss fifi says
I’d love to have the power to create peace in people’s minds..well just because I know that it sucks to have jumbled thoughts 😀
Rain Jeys says
I’d like the ability to let one person feel another’s pain. We need more empathy in the world.

I would love Telekinesis.
Thank you for the giveaway!
I loved Pivot Point and I can’t wait for Split Second! Personally, telekinesis is THE dream. Haha! Thanks for the giveaway!
Von P. says
Haven’t read Pivot Point yet but I like to have the control over things like telekinesis.
Lynn K. says
Definitely telekinesis! Just imagine, you’re all snuggled up and warm in bed…but you forgot to grab your book. Throw in telekinesis and problem solved! [Yes, I’m just so lazy.. :P]
Pyrokinesis is also pretty cool. Though my fascination with this power is more due to my new favorite character: Roy Mustang from FMA. 😀
To be able to move things with my MIND!
