I was blown away by Slated when I read it last year, and I am so happy that I finally got the chance to see what was next for Kyla. I enjoyed Fractured a lot, and I thought it was a very pleasant read. It did drag a little in the middle, but the climax was fantastic. Lots of shooting, blood, fighting, and backstabbing!
In Fractured we learn a lot more about Kyla and who she was before she was Slated. I really liked reading about Kyla as she discovered more about herself and her past. Some of the revelations were really interesting. This book touches upon multiple personality disorder, something that has really intrigued me since I read Pretty Girl Thirteen, as well as a form of conditioning.
I liked the new secondary characters, Nico and Cam. I didn’t trust either of them because my motto is TRUST NO ONE, so it made it really uncomfortable when Kyla did trust them and listened to them. Nico was particularly creepy, and his relationship with Kyla gave me goosebumps. Some of their scenes were spine-tingling. He was very mysterious, and I was totally intrigued by him. What is his motive?
I thought that Fractured could have been a bit shorter. There was a lot of stuff packed in here, and while I can’t think of a specific thing that could have been cut out, I think that it dragged a little bit in the middle. I just wanted it to get to the end where (I hoped) the explosions would happen.
There was hardly any love story or romantic plot at all, since Ben is now gone. YES! REJOICE! It was great to have a bit of a break, since all these YA books I’ve been reading lately have romance by the bucket load. Instead of focussing on Kyla’s love for someone, Fractured focusses on Kyla herself.
I really liked the ending, especially since it had me on the edge of my seat, worrying about what was going to happen to the characters I loved. Would Kyla’s Mum be okay? What about Dr Lysander?
Overall I am very pleased with this sequel. I was kept on my toes throughout, and I loved discovering more about Kyla and who she was before she was Slated. I can’t wait to find out more about the Lorders in the third book in the trilogy, since we got a look into Free UK in this one. The Lorders kinda scare me!
I have just finished this as well, made me want the final book so much and that’s not out until next year – aargh! The Recaptains recap helped me so much remembering what happened in Slated!
Hehe, I’m glad the recap was useful ๐
I also enjoyed Slated a lot and I was looking forward to reading Fractured. After reading your review I even may pick up this one as my next read. I love me some shooting, blood, fighting and backstabbing lol ๐
great review!
YESSSSSS, I hope you like it! Thank you!
I really need to pick up the first book, I think I might enjoy this. Great review.

Slated was AWESOME!
I really enjoyed the no romance aspect to this book too! I don’t understand why in every single YA book there has to be a love story. I actually found no Ben quite refreshing!
Yessss, it was very refreshing! I wish more YA was like this, since I seem to be put off by a lot of the romances nowadays. Either leave it out, or develop it slowly!
