This is a thing that I haven’t done in a while! I want to focus more on debuts this year because debut authors need some love and I plan on (hopefully) hosted another Debutathon at some point this year, so what better way to keep track of debuts than this? I accidentally gave up on this feature a couple of times because I was just so busy, but here I am to reclaim it.
So how this usually works is I share a few debuts that are releasing this month that I would really like to read, and then I would normally share my thoughts on some debuts that I read in the previous month. But there’s a slight issue there because it’s January, aka the first month of the year, so I haven’t actually read any debuts yet. STILL. Here are some of the ones that I’m looking forward to this month:
The Way We Bared Our Souls is an interesting-sounding story about a group of teenagers who take on other people’s burdens (?!) after chatting about their own around the campfire. I’m not sure if this is meant to be some sort of paranormal or not but I think it sounds promising. The Conspiracy of Us is described as a romantic thriller, but I’m ignoring the romantic part and focussing on the THRILLER BIT OH YESSS. I’m a little bit wary about Tunnel Vision but it’s about people with powers and that’s my favourite thing.
So, which debuts are you going to be reading this month?
I’m glad you are bringing this showcase back. I enjoy your thoughts on debut books.
Thanks, Rachael! Very excited to bring it back ๐
The only book on this list I’ve heard anything about is The Conspiracy of Us and from the sounds of things, there’s definitely more focus on the thriller!
People and powers are always a great combination XD So many favourite books revolve around this. Though so do a lot of my least favourite books…
It does sound awesome!
Superpowers are my favourite thing. Have you read Blackout by Robison Wells? SO GOOD.
I’m really exited about The Way We Bared Our Souls, especially since this is a different (and better) cover than the ones I’ve seen. The storyline of the child soldier from Liberia is really unique. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book from the POV of one of the children. It could either be really interesting or a bit disastrous.
I haven’t seen any other covers! Now I must go and look some up. I haven’t read ANYTHING about Liberia, let alone from the POV of a child there. I’m intrigued!
January is almost over and I still haven’t read any January debuts! I’ve read a February debut though (UNSPEAKABLE, which I was really glad to see a review on this blog for that I COMPLETELY AGREED WITH, ahhhh what a disappointment that book was). But I’m really interested in THE WAY WE BARED OUR SOULS. It just sounds so unique! And actually, it’s terrible, but I can’t really remember reading books about superpowers at all! It doesn’t interest me that much, but I guess I should try and read some and see what I think. Honestly when I think teens with powers the only thing I can think of is the TV show Misfits. Haha. The book I most want to read with that trope is probably STEELHEART though. I must get round to reading that soon! But TUNNEL VISION looks pretty cool and it seems to have really great reviews so far. ๐
