Book Review: Outside In by Maria V SnyderOutside In by Maria V. Snyder
Series: Inside Out #2
Genre: Science Fiction
Release Date: 1st March 2011
Publisher: HarperTeen
Source: Publisher
Add it: Goodreads
Rating: four-half-stars

There's something Outside. It wants In. And I’m supposed to stop it? I’m Trella. I used to be a scrub, cleaning the pipes and corridors of Inside. Then I found a whole world beyond the cube we live in and accidentally led a revolution against the Uppers. Now everyone is trying to figure out what happens next. Except me. The fight’s over and I want my life back. I need to explore the new world I’ve found and work out exactly what’s going on with Riley, the Upper who helped me win the war. But there’s something Outside. And I need to step up. Because once a leader, always a leader. It’s coming. Am I strong enough to stop it?

The plot was very nearly as awesome as the first book, Inside Out.

There is a couple of twists, which was nice. If you were watching my updates on Goodreads, you probably know that I now consider myself psychic as I predicted what was going to happen before it happened. Then again, does that mean that the twists were rather obvious? I’ll let you be the judge of that one.

The ending left me wanting more, I wish I could have seen more of what was going to happen after the events in this book ended. Is there going to be another book? Because this did seem like the end, unfortunately.

The ending did seem slightly rushed, and it did seem like the author just wanted to put a lid on this story. However, I may well be wrong, as this may not be the end of the series *crosses fingers*

As with the first book, Trella was a brilliant female lead. I have not got much to say about her to be honest with you, as she stayed pretty much the same throughout the course of the book. Being the evil person that I am, I did love watching her struggle with her new role in this society.

As for Riley… I wanted more Riley, darn it! He really wasn’t in this novel as much as I expected him to be, and I was a bit disappointed. But, when he was in it, he was just as amazing as he was in the first book.

Jacy is also a character I wanted to see more of – but that’s mainly due to the slight crush I seemed to develop for him in the first book. He’s badass. Yup. And I do still think he and Trella should get together. This is one love triangle I would be supporting.

The antagonists – not to reveal any spoilers – were very interestingly done. I loved reading about them, and then finally meeting them after reading about them for so long was just mind-blowing!

As usual, Snyder’s writing style leaves nothing to be desired. Truly splendid, it really is!

I am excited to get to know these characters better. They sound awesome. I’m looking forward even more to reading this one, but it’ll have to wait until I’m done with review books.

Happy release day to The Effort! I'm so excited to read this apocalyptic story about people coming together to prevent a global crisis. Like I said the other day, I'm really into disaster stories lately 😊

I'm smashing through my physical ARCs this week, which means it's almost time for me to read This is Not the Jess Show! I'm excited for this one, if a little cautious about how similar to The Truman Show it's going to be.

I absolutely blasted through The Girls I've Been by Tess Sharpe this week! I was worried I was getting slumpy from too much sff so I switched to a YA thriller and WHEW, it was excellent.

The Girls I've Been is about a girl called Nora who is the daughter of a con artist (and also bi!). She's living her own life now away from her mother, and then someone tries to rob a bank while she's inside it.

This was so fast paced and I love that it was told in a non linear format. Trigger warnings for lots of things, though. You can find the full list on the author's website but the main one for me was domestic violence.

Siri, Who Am I? was my final read of 2020 and it was a fun one. While I didn't love how the main character treated others, particularly her attitude towards sex workers, I did like how fast paced this one was and the slight mystery element mixed with Rich People Drama kept me reading. Will I reread it? No. But I enjoyed my time with it well enough.
