Did the debut authors decide to team up against us fragile readers this month? Did the publishers plan an avalanche of debuts to unleash upon us and leave us quivering? I’m not going to lie, researching this month’s debut novels was frightening. There are just so many of them! I haven’t included every release in this post and there are still a load of them out there. Wow. Tell me which ones you’re reading in the comments below!
The Violet Hour by Andrea L. Wells
To be honest, I just like the title and the cover. The Violet Hour is about a girl who tries to uncover family secrets.
Made You Up by Francesca Zappia
This is about someone with schizophrenia, which isn’t a perspective that I’ve read from before. Continue reading
I was going to do some intense research for this month’s Debut Showcase but I’ve ended up just fangirling about An Ember in the Ashes because it pretty much overshadows all other releases for me. Oops. Which debuts are you looking forward to this month? Have you been lucky enough to read any of these books already? If so, I’m incredibly jealous.
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
Because this is set in a Rome-like world. I put this on my list of books that I absolutely MUST read this year, because a) Rome and b) that cover. I just hope I love it!
In a World Just Right by Jen Brooks
Alternate universes are freakin’ awesome, no?
None of the Above by L. W. Gregario
Because I’ve never read a book about anyone who is intersex before, and I want to learn more about someone who is “none of the above”.
Do you ever have moments of regret over not requesting review copies? I do, particularly this month because there are a bunch of debut novels coming out and most of them were on Edelweiss. I’m kind of glad I didn’t get them because I’m no longer doing the whole review copy thing if I can help it (Queen of Shadows would be an exception… if there are ARCs), but at the same time I’m probably not going to get to these awesome sounding debuts for ages! Do you ever feel this way?
Anyway, there are a bunch of debuts out this month and I want to read every single one of them!
Look at me, I’m on a roll with this Debut Showcase thing! Can I get an applause? Okay, yes, I know it’s only month two, but that’s so not the point. There are a few debuts coming out in February that I would like to share with you all.
The first book is one that everyone is freaking out about, and that is Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. This is out on Tuesday, and I have an ARC of it that I still need to read. I’m going to try my best to get to it before release day. Red Queen is a fantasy novel set in a world in which some people have god-like powers. One of the Guys by Lisa Aldin is about a girl called Toni who sets up a Rent-a-Gent service at her school, since she’s a tomboy and has lots of guy friends that the other girls are swooning over. I would normally want to read a book like this in the summer, so I’m holding out on buying it just yet! Then, finally, there is City of Savages by Lee Kelly, which came out yesterday. It’s set in New York after it has been invaded by the Red Allies, and more importantly, it’s about two sisters!
Which debuts are you looking forward to reading this month?
This is a thing that I haven’t done in a while! I want to focus more on debuts this year because debut authors need some love and I plan on (hopefully) hosted another Debutathon at some point this year, so what better way to keep track of debuts than this? I accidentally gave up on this feature a couple of times because I was just so busy, but here I am to reclaim it.
