Summer TBR Wipeout 2017: Update #2

there's someone inside your houseThis update isn’t quite as busy as the last one because everything kicked off towards the end of the month and I was suddenly really busy. I haven’t had a truly free weekend to read, so I’m a bit slower with wiping out the TBR. I’m hoping it’ll pick back up next week once everything calms down and I can focus!

The first book I finished was There’s Someone Inside Your House, which turned out to be a really good, creepy read. I was really pleased with Perkins’ transition into horror. It reminded me a bit of the Scream trilogy, except with more romance. And the big reveal wasn’t all that great.gemina

I’m currently reading Gemina. I went out and bought it after I recapped Illuminae for Recaptains because I was in the mood, and I’m actually liking it a lot more than the first book.

Speaking of Recaptains, that’s what has been taking up a lot of my time! I’ve been slowly getting both Books of Amber and Recaptains back up and running again, and Recaptains is taking a bit longer because of the work that goes into recapping series. I’m enjoying it though!

My goals for the next couple of weeks are to finish Gemina (and recap it!), and read a couple of others books. I have a few in mind, including The Long Way to a Small, Angry PlanetThese Things I’ve Done, and The Roanoke Girls. I’m also considering taking part in ARC August because that’s always fun.

the wrath and the dawn

We’re one week into the massive Summer TBR Wipeout and it’s time for an update. My goal this summer is to read 10 books from my TBR, which is literally overflowing from my bookshelves. And in true Amber fashion, I’ve managed to read books on my Kindle instead. Gah.

far from the tree

At the beginning of challenge I finished up The Wrath and the Dawn, meaning my first read for the Summer TBR Wipeout was a massive disappointment. Honestly. I have no idea why this book has such a huge fanbase (I’m not shading you if you love it! I just don’t get it) because I thought it was a load of crap. I might read the sequel though because why not?

Thankfully, my second read was a lot better. I read Far From the Tree, which is coming out in October. I downloaded it from Edelweiss the other day and I was too excited about it to wait any longer before picking it up. Far From the Tree is about three siblings who were given up by their mother and either adopted separately or put in a foster home. It was really freaking emotional.

hello sunshineNext I read Hello, Sunshine, which is about a young woman who didn’t get into college, and so she follows her dream of moving to Los Angeles to become an actress. She struggles for money, she makes friends, she meets a few weirdos, and she struggles to break into the industry. It was really good. Not great or amazing, but if you’re looking for a fun and fluffy read, this is one for you.

On Thursday I started reading a highly anticipated release – There’s Someone Inside Your House! Perkins announced that she was writing this book years ago and I’ve been dying to read it. I requested a copy from NetGalley, and ththere's someone inside your houseey delivered! I’m really enjoying it so far, although there’s a little too much focus on the romance for me. I’m loving the slasher/Scream movie vibe though. I’m going to finish this one shortly and then start with my next one.

As you can see, I’m doing quite well with this challenge so far! I’ve read one book from my physical TBR, and three books from my enormous review copy backlog. I can’t wait to see what progress I make next week! I think I’m going to try to read more from my physical TBR pile, but it depends on what I’m in the mood for.

How are you guys doing with the challenge?

Summer TBR Wipeout 2017: Introduction

summer tbr wipeout

The Candid Cover is hosting a summer challenge! I didn’t take part last year due to it being the busiest summer of my life, but I couldn’t miss my chance again. The goal here is to wipeout the TBR pile and read, read, read. I wrote a post about my July TBR, which I will obviously be incorporating into this challenge, but since the challenge runs into mid-August as well, I’m hoping to read even more books than I listed there.

I’m going to keep my goal fairly low and aim for ten books, because I don’t want to set my sights too high and I’ve got a couple of busy weekends coming up later on in the month. I am hoping to smash this and read more than ten books, but ten is a good minimum. My TBR is going to look so good after this!

I’ll be posting several updates posts throughout the challenge, but if you wanted a sneak peek at what I’ll be reading:
