Welcome, welcome! This is the official announcement for the second (hopefully) annual Debutathon!
The Debutathon began last year when I was flailing over some awesome debut novels and authors, and I wanted to share the love. The first Debutathon took place in the summer, about halfway through the year, because it’s when I thought everyone would have the most time. I was considering hosting a second event closer to Christmas and the New Year, but those plans fell through because I was just so busy. After much consideration and many requests, I’m now hosting the second event! A year late, but
The Debutathon will start on December 8 @ 12AM until December 14 @ 11.59PM. Obviously, it will last for a week, which is a little longer than the last one. Since this is an incredibly busy time of year, I wanted to give everyone as much time as possible to read their debuts!
So, you all have exactly three weeks to research debut novels, buy/borrow/steal (from friends, obviously, not shops or the internet) a few, and cancel all plans for that week.
This is a week-long readathon that focusses on debut novels. If you have any questions then feel free to ask! Here are some things to keep in mind:
– The debuts have to be released in 2014
– The debuts can be Middle Grade, Young Adult, or Adult
– You may read an author’s debut in one of those categories, even if they’ve published other books in other categories before. For example, HARRY POTTER would be J. K. Rowling’s debut novel and her children’s debut, but THE CASUAL VACANCY would be her adult debut. Both would count. If they had been published in 2014, obviously.
As well as reading ALL THE DEBUTS, I will also be hosting giveaways, interviewing authors, and making lots of lists. Because lists are the best thing. You can take part by coming up with challenges (Book Spine Poetry, Spell It Out, Book Chain, and other such classics are welcome), reading the books, and cheering for fellow participants!
If you need some help deciding which debut novels to read, you can check out these handy lists:
If anyone else has any lists/articles about debut novels, feel free to share! A word of caution: Anybody can edit and add books to Goodreads lists, so take care to make sure that the books you plan to read are actually debuts!
To officially take part in the Debutathon, you should sign up using the linky below. You can use your blog URL, Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, Tumblr, Youtube channel… any of those things. But please leave a link to your sign up page/tweet/status. All you have to do is announce that you plan on taking part, and leave a link to this page. And there is a giveaway involved for those who take part!
