on the blog
Due to my trip to Germany, the blog went on a semi-hiatus and I didn’t post as regularly as I usually do. This worked out great, in my opinion, because I’m back feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, and I have a bunch of new ideas for my blog and Booktube channel. Now I just need to find the time to develop them.
The most excited thing that happened on the blog in July was the announcement of mine and Bec’s Raven Cycle (Re)Readathon! You can sign up and stuff in the post. Both of us are very excited to host this, and there are going to be tonnes of exciting things happening over the two months that the event takes place, such as giveaways, a scavenger hunt, challenges, and more.
I reviewed The Vanishing Season which, while I cried, was a bit of a let down. I did enjoy The Savages though, even if it did make me question my morals and remind me a lot of The Addams Family. I shared the characters that I would want with me on a deserted island, and included lots of excellent gifs. The Gannicus gif is reason enough to read the post. Finally, I died over Since You’ve Been Gone, because Morgan Matson is out to get me.
Tatum was thoroughly creeped out by Lolita, which makes me even more curious to read the book. She reviewed Earthman Jack vs. the Ghost Planet, as well as Crime and Punishment, both of which were kind of average. Tatum did really like The Sweet Far Thing, though, so maybe I can convince her to finally read Beauty Queens? I gave that book to her years ago because I hated it but I think she gave it away *cries*
me in July
At the beginning of the month, I started training for my new job. It was very stressful at first, because I had a lot of things that I had to remember, but I think I have the hang of it. I’ll be doing this new job for half of the week, and on those days I’ll get to finish work at 5PM (5.30 on Wednesdays) instead of the usual 6.30! It’s heavenly, even though I do have to arrive earlier in the mornings. Leaving while the sun is still shining makes me happy. Overall, I’m very happy with the new job! So far, at least.
I’m still settling into my new house. It’s weird, not living with my mum and my sister, but at the same time it’s peaceful because I don’t have three brothers running around and causing trouble. And I have a much bigger room now *smug*
Another highlight of my month was attending YALC with Tatum, and meeting a bunch of authors and fellow bloggers. I do want to post a write-up of the day at some point, but I haven’t had time to do so yet. It was a brilliant day, which involved a lot of cosplay, heat, and queuing. I had a great time, and I will definitely be attending next year’s event (if there is one, which there had better be!) and it also made me want to go to BEA even more.
I visited my aunt, uncle and cousins in Germany for twelve days with my little brother, and the weather was glorious. I vlogged the whole thing, which I am very proud of, and the trip also inspired me to start a new feature on my blog, which you will see in a couple of weeks. I was a bit sad to be going home, but at the same time it’s quite nice to return to normal. Especially now that I’m refreshed!
I managed to get out of the reading slump that I was suffering from at the beginning of the month, but then I suddenly became really busy with YALC-ing and holiday-ing and all that, so I didn’t have much time to read! The books that I did read were really good though, so that’s a plus.
1. Elantris by Brandon Sanderson ★★★★
2. Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson ★★★★★
3. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein ★★★★
4. Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas ★★★★
5. In a Handful of Dust by Mindy McGinnis ★★★★
book of the month giveaway
Yep, I’m giving away a copy of Since You’ve Been Gone! I adored it, and I think everybody should read it because friendship and slow burn and all that squishiness. Emily is one of the most relateable characters to me, and I will love her forever.
To enter, just leave a comment below telling me what your favourite fictional friendship is. Make sure you enter a valid email address into the box, because that’s how I will be contacting you. I’ll be randomly choosing a winner on August 20th, and the giveaway is international.
looking forward to…
I don’t have anything planned for August, which is exciting in itself. I want to relax and soak up the last of the British summer when I’m not working. Speaking of work, I will be taking over my new role full time (but still for only half of the week, just to confuse you) when my coworker leaves in a few weeks. We have a three-day weekend coming up, and I’ve booked the Friday off work so I get four days to read and sleep and calm down after such a busy few months. My sister is now on holiday from school, so I want to take her into London a couple of times and she really wants to see Windsor Castle. Also, mine and Bec’s Raven Cycle (Re)Readathon starts at the end of the month, and I cannot wait to read The Raven Boys along with you all!
