Monthly Wrap Up and Giveaway: June 2014

JUNE-WRAP-UP

on the blog

I reviewed Crown of Midnight, which was a pleasant surprise since I didn’t love Throne of Glass, and The Fiery Heart which wasn’t as great as I had hoped. I shared my favourite places that I visited in the USA in March, and Tatum shared her favourite books of the year so far in a fantastic list. On the Fence was another hit from Ms. West, and The Book Thief movie made me cry my heart out. Tatum didn’t like Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea as much as she had hoped, which is disappointed because I wanted to read it. Say Her Name is a pretty decent horror story – BLOODY MARY! I wrapped up my first five days in the USA, which were a blast. Tatum shared her thoughts on The Name of the Rose and, lol, almost succeeded in putting me off reading it. Can I have more psychological thrillers like The Half Life of Molly Pierce, please? Tatum’s last review of the month was for LGBT Month: The Night Watch. I posted a new Famous Last Words post, and I’m excited to continue sharing my favourite last lines with you all! And, finally, I posted a belated book haul which is already out of date. Oops?

me in june

June was an insanely busy month for me, and I took every opportunity to rant on Twitter about how hectic it was. I’m sorry I put you all through that, but it had to be done in order for me to stay sane! The first major thing to happen was my Youtube channel reaching 3000 subscribers. That’s crazy! And I really appreciate it, so thank you to everyone who has subscribed to me and who watches my videos.

Then, I moved house. Yeah. I’m no longer living with my mum and my siblings, and instead I’m living in a bigger house with only my grandad, about five minutes away from my mum’s house. It was scary and upsetting, and I really didn’t want to leave my little sister, but it kind of had to be done. I have a bigger room now, though, which means MORE BOOKS. This is also the reason why I have been so broke this past month, in case you were wondering why I was suddenly poor and living off SuperNoodles. Hopefully my financial situation will change in the next couple of weeks once everything is settled!

On the work front, something amazing happened: I was offered a promotion! I took a weekend to think about it, and I eventually decided to accept. I’ll be doing the same thing as I have been doing (editing) for half the week, and something entirely new and different for the other half. I’m really excited about this opportunity, and I hope I love this new job.

It was also my mum’s birthday, and I took her to a Grease Sing-a-Long in Leicester Square to celebrate. Then on her actual birthday, my village held a Feast Day, which is an event held on the common and everyone gathers there and eats and watches the performances on a stage and there’s a fair and stalls and face painting and food. I love it. Except it rained this year, which put a downer on things.

books read

1. The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
2. Say Her Name by James Dawson
3. The Savages by Matt Whyman
4. The Mockingbirds by Daisy Whitney ½
5. Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo ?????
6. Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn ½
7. The Vanishing Season by Jodi Lynn Anderson

I didn’t read as much as I had hoped because The Final Empire put me in a giant reading slump, and I was insanely busy. I’m still not out of the slump, unfortunately. *twiddles thumbs*

book of the month giveaway

I thought I would let you know that I haven’t yet picked the winners for my last couple of giveaways due to the financial issues mentioned above. I thought it would be unfair to choose the winners and then to be unable to send out the books, so I’ve been waiting for things to improve. Everything’s better now, so by the time this giveaway ends, I will be able to send out all the books!

final empire

This month I’m giving away a copy of The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. Did anybody not see this coming? The giveaway is international, and it ends on July 31st!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

looking forward to…

I’m looking forward to starting my new job this month now that I’ve been promoted. I’m going to Comic Con with Tatum in a couple of weeks and I’m going to meet Rinn and Claire and a bunch of other bloggers. I’m off to Germany shortly after that to stay with my aunt, uncle, and cousins for ten days. And Bec and I are continuing with the planning of our Raven Cycle Readathon event!

Seems like you had a busy month in June 😀 I hope you will settle down in your new place soon and that you love that promotion. Seems like you are rocking it already, according to your tweet 😀 That grease sing-a-long sounds like fun!

    Have great July :)

Congrats on 3000 subscribers! Your videos are wonderful and I love watching them! Also congrats on your promotion – how exciting! And the Grease sing-a-long sounds so much fun. Grease isn’t my favourite musical but the songs sure are fun to sing along to! Every single time I hear We Go Together, I just have to get up and dance. In middle school, my drama teacher organized a stage production of Grease and she had this really awesome and fun dance to We Go Together so whenever I hear it now, I just have to get up and start doing it!

Anyway, have a great July! :)

I HAD NOT HEARD OF THAT NEW SANDERSON.
Good on you for being open about not loving Throne of Glass. Heir of Fire was much better, I thought.

I want to enter the contest but I can’t because it says it isn’t open yet. Womp womp.

I’d have to go with water too! 😀 Not a fan of fire…

    WOW!! 3,000 subscribers?! That’s crazy… congratulations ^_^

I’m glass you enjoyed Crown of Midnight much more than Throne of Glass… I loved both but CoM was my favourite 😛

Okay, I would definitely be an Airbender… I’m a Libra and air is Libra’s element and I don’t particularly like fire and I’m slightly scared of water. Earth doesn’t say much to me :S

Thank you for this amazing giveaway and I hope July to be as amazing and June 😉

I’ve always loved Earth as an element! I just love nature and yeah I even have a tumblr blog consisting of plants and bunnies, deers and cats. But mostly, plants. I’m a total environment geek. ^^

I hope I’d win this book! I have already read it but unfortunately it was only an e-copy. I have The Well of Ascension on my shelf now, waiting to be read. I’m excited to get my hands on it! I want more from Elend hahaha! I also loved Sanderson’s ‘The Rithmatist.’ Have you read it? :)

Congratz on the success of your channel, you deserve it, you’re such a lovely person! You commented on my best friend’s first video of Booktube and it means a lot, i didnt think i could like you more hahah I would choose water, I swear that in another life I was a daughter of Poseidon.

  8. Prachi July 6, 2014 7:46 pm

I would choose earth because I think it would be cool to control the growth of plants. Thanks for having this giveaway(:

  9. Shaelin July 6, 2014 10:35 pm

My brother is a huge fan of this book and now I really want to read it!
And I would have to choose some kind of earth power.

  10. Sally July 7, 2014 12:26 am

If I were to have control over any element, I think I’d want some kind of weather powers. Basically I want to be Storm from X-Men.

  11. Tryphena July 7, 2014 5:13 am

Airbender ! So I could control the air :)

  12. Ally July 8, 2014 5:03 am

I would do water bending too! I don’t know there’s something I like about water??

  13. Gah, I’m SO glad you enjoyed The Half Life of Molly Pierce.

Yay for 3000 subscribers! I’m one of those though, I don’t get to watch as much booktubers’ videos as much as I’d like to. This is sad.

YAY FOR MOVING OUT. Should be exciting and awesome. Heee.

And I thought you were in a reading slump but you still managed to read 7 books? What, how-what?

I would pick fire; it complements with my personality. haha

  16. jayd @ books, food and other things July 14, 2014 10:50 am

Wonderful post, such a busy month though! I had a similar sort of month – me and mum moved out and had some big financial problems, but I’m working now so all will be good. Glad things are starting to pick up for you too!

Also, I would want to wield earth the earth element. I’m very useless at growing plants, but I’d really love to be able to grow vegetables and fruits with my mum since she loves gardening. It helps if I can remember to water them.
